NOVAK comprises three innovative, professional and diverse art organisations based in North East England. They work seamlessly on a project by project basis and through their individual talents offer a well rounded and highly varied skill set. The three businesses are: NAME, Preamptive and Retina Glitch.
NAME
NAME was established in October 2002 working in digital media, including traditional graphic design, web design, videographer, video-editing, motion graphics production and music creation. NAME also placed real emphasis on live performance. This has been expressed through artists development via curation, programming, commissioning as well as performing ourselves with live visuals (Vying), audio-visual (AV) or DJ performance. This has been at events, projects and festivals in the North-East, nationally and in Europe.
PREAMPTIVE
After their winning entry for the MTV/TDK VJ competition in 2004, Newcastle based Preamptive who are Elliot Thomson and Keith Daniels have fastly become one of the best-known acts within the audiovisual scene. Their flow of beautifully carved graphics and thought provoking imagery runs seamlessly with music and adds a certain ambience to any respectable music event. Whilst working alongside and with some of the biggest names within the European music scene their presence has been much admired and due to this they are regularly playing at music festivals throughout Europe.
Recently Preamptive have been working on commission pieces for The Sage Gateshead, AV Festival, Cybersonica, Nike, Yahoo, Southern Comfort, Snowbombing, Galaxy radio. Although the guys are creating a stir when it comes to audiovisuals their day to day work of DVD production, video editing, illustration and live video mixing is gaining them a good reputation as business men within the north east.
Past gigs include - TDK Cross Central Festival, The Big Chill Festival, Electric Picnic- Ireland and Snowbombing. With their residency playing Fridays at WAX:ON, Digital nightclub, they have played along side some of the best names in dance music, including - (Madonna’s producer) Stuart Price, Mylo, M.A.N.D.Y, Tom Middleton, Soul II Soul, Modeselektor, Jazzy Jeff, Felix da Hose Cat, Jazzy B, Roni Size, Annie Mac, Erol Alkan and 2 Many DJ’s to name a few!
RETINA GLITCH
Retina Glitch is Adam Finlay a video artist, motion graphic designer and live visual performer (VJ). He produces a varying range of material from abstract video installations, bespoke motion graphics and music videos.
As VJ he has two residencies. Bulletproof, Newcastle’s largest alternative music night and Numbers, Glasgow’s leading electronic music night which he also co-promotes. Through these events and many others he has performed alongside and produced material for a multitude of establish artists including Modeslektor, DJ A – Trak (Kanya West’s DJ), Richie Hawtin, Mylo, Uffie, and Jeff Mills amongst many others.
As a video artist he has created pieces that have been shown at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead and the Tyneside Cinema. Along with music videos for the Guessmen (Tummy Touch Records) and Marcia Blaine School For Girls (High Point Lowlife Records.
